Korean Semi, Display Maker '06 Investment on Par with '05
December 23, 2005
According a equipment procurement survey published in Korea's Digital Times, seven Korean semiconductor and display makers will invest 17 to 18 trillion won in 2006, similar to levels seen in 2005. Among these companies, Samsung's semiconductor unit will focus on the construction of its fifteenth line while procuring equipment for its fourteenth line and the S line. LG Philips LCD is projected to spend 3.5 to 4.5 trillion won, although plans for 8G lines remain uncertain. Samsung SDI intends to set up an AM OLED (Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode) line with 470 billion won. Investment into the fourth-phase of construction on its PDP (Plasma Display Panel) line will be reconsidered in view of changes in PDP demand.
